Solar thermal: basic principle, market:barriers and european standard

The main objective of this presentation is to outline all important aspects both technical and economic that could help solar thermal technology to reach its potential at the European level. A brief discussion about the European level quality mark (based on the European standards for solar thermal collectors and solar water heating system) accepted by all subsidy schemes, i.e. “Solar Keymark”, will also be a part of this presentation.

Obiettivo formativo:
Considering, the enormous potential and numerous advantages of solar thermal technology, there is an urgent need to identify the various problems/Obstacle/barriers and, subsequently, find the most appropriate solutions, for solar thermal technology to reach its potential. The literature available on the topic and the field experiments conducted in different countries reveal that low-quality imported goods with poor performance and reliability, non availability of an internationally recognized quality mark for solar thermal products, lack of trained man power for proper installation of the solar thermal unit, higher capital cost of the plant construction etc. caused serious damage to the solar thermal market. It is in the above context that efforts have been made to investigate all important aspects both technical and economic that could help the solar thermal technology at the European level. Research efforts that will help the development and use of cheap but high quality, more durable and locally available materials, for the construction of solar thermal products (without jeopardizing their performance) will also be discussed. Moreover, a brief discussion about the European level quality mark accepted by all subsidy schemes, i.e. “Solar Keymark” will also be a part of this presentation.
